The visible portion of the tooth is the crown. The outer surface of the crown is made of enamel. Just beneath the enamel is dentin, a substance harder than bone. The gum surrounds the base of the tooth.
The root of the tooth extends down into the jaw bone and provides circulation and sensation to the tooth. The root contains blood vessels and nerves, which supply circulation and sensation to the entire tooth. The area is known as the "pulp" of the tooth.
The jaw bone contains all the teeth and provides stability and mobility for the mouth and teeth for chewing. The lower jaw bone is called the mandible and the upper jaw bone is called the maxilla.

Anatomy and physiology are important in determining evolutionary relationships between animal phyla. Similarities and differences in these traits can provide insights into common ancestry and evolutionary history. By studying the anatomical and physiological characteristics of different animal groups, scientists can infer relationships and construct evolutionary trees to understand the evolutionary links between phyla.

The anatomy of the ear consists of the outer, middle, and inner ear, which work together to convert sound waves into electrical signals for the brain to interpret. The eye contains structures like the cornea, iris, lens, and retina, which work together to focus light and send visual information to the brain. In the nose, air is filtered, warmed, and humidified before reaching the lungs, with olfactory receptors detecting smells. The throat includes structures like the pharynx, larynx, and vocal cords, which play a role in swallowing and speaking.

Tetralogy of Fallot is a congenital heart defect characterized by four specific heart defects: ventricular septal defect, overriding aorta, pulmonary stenosis, and right ventricular hypertrophy. This condition results in decreased oxygen levels in the blood due to mixing of oxygen-rich and oxygen-poor blood, leading to symptoms such as cyanosis (blue discoloration of the skin). Surgical correction is typically necessary to improve blood flow and oxygenation.

During viral infection, a virus enters the body and attaches to host cells. It then releases its genetic material, takes control of the host cell's machinery to replicate itself, and assembles new viruses. This process can lead to cell death, tissue damage, and triggering of the immune response. The immune system responds by producing antibodies and activating immune cells to combat the virus.
