al kooper? Al Kooper WAS the organist in The Blues Project but by Monterey he had left them. The new organ player was African American. Al Kooper actually did play a Blues Project tune at Monterey but under his own name, in a band with Elvin Bishop. I too would like to know who actually did play organ with the Blues Project that night.

I know that Hole did a cover of that song on their Unplugged album and a pretty good 60s band called Vanilla Fudge did, too. (Hole, as crazy as it seems, was better - in my opinion.) Misfits had a song by that name, but I don't think it's the same song.

Al Kooper and Stephen Stills did a long version of Season of the Witch on the Super Session album, released about 1969 - great wah-wah work by Stills, Kooper did the vocals. There is a related live version by Kooper and Mike Bloomfield on guitar, from their Live at the Fillmore East record.
