Kalouaz, Ahmed (b. 1952). Algerian-born poet, novelist, and dramatist brought up from an early age in France. The son of an immigrant worker, he explored the condition of Algerian women in his first novel, L'Encre d'un fait divers (1984), and produced a powerful narrative on French racism in Point kilométrique 190 (1986). The poems collected in A mes oiseaux piaillant debout… (1987) mix personal and political themes. Through the circus folk depicted in the play Double soleil (1989), Kalouaz explores the theme of marginalization.
