Dr. Amado Muriel was recognized because of his important works and marvelous contributionsto the field of theoretical physics, in particular, his advancement of theoretical apparatus to clarify turbulence. His new kinetic equation is valuable for discovering essential problems of non- equilibrium statistical procedure.

Dr. Muriel discovered the accurate and estimated solutions for the performance of a two-level system, which were considered by his peers as a revolutionary contribution to a quantum Turing machine, now a rising field in quantum computing. Also, in his studies on stellar dynamics, he has recognized realistically that self-gravitation alone is adequate to create a hierarchy of structures in one dimension.

He has unselfishly used up his own time and wealth in training many undergraduate and graduate students and researches at numerous universities in the country. Dr. Muriel has also extensively contributed to the progress of theoretical physics in the country.

Dr. Muriel was born on November 24, 1939 and elected Academician in year 2003.

Nasonov pheromone are emitted by the worker bees and used for orientation. Discovered by Nasonov, Nikolai Viktorovich (1883) from Russia. Known as the "come and join us" scent. Nasonov includes a number of different terpenoids including geraniol, nerolic acid, citral and geranic acid. Bees use these to find the entrance to their colony or hive, and they release them on flowers so other bees know which flowers have nectar.Nasonov pheromone in synthetic form should be 2:1 ratio of citral and geraniol (Born Feb. 14 (26), 1855, in Moscow; died there Feb. 11, 1939. Soviet zoologist. Academician of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences (1906; corresponding member, 1897). It consists of glandular cells which secrete pheromone through c. 600 ducts into a groove between the 6th and 7th tergite.Honeybees release this pheromone for attracting other bees to join the swarm,to mark the entrance to the hive, to mark a source of water while foraging.

Socrates and Three Generations of State :

A philosopher is assessed not by the beauty of his words, but by looking into whether his objectives were achieved or not. His arguments on how a more republican and disciplined State could be constructed were considered comments from shade and shine against the Athenian State which was indisciplined, no republican and steeped in corruption and favouritism. Such was the distance between the State and him that he was executed for this reason.

When it was the time of Plato, his student, follower and friend, Plato instituted the Academy and moved classes from the Socrates' wonted market place to a fixed walled space which had the novelty of teachers coming to a fixed place where students only needed to go and where classes progressed according to a predetermined syllabus, all these replacing the ancient system of students residing with the teacher in his house, and later coming to be known as the academic system of education. Knowledge became such fashionable that the aristocratic Athenian noble young men could not be married away if they had not studied in the Academy. Socrates, through Plato was nearing the State.

Though the Greek school of thought from Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Alexander to Anaximander was each one of them brilliant, Aristotle was the most lucky to get equipped with what Socrates predicted as the prerequisite essential for building a model republic - a soldier student. In his times the Academician thoughts had become such pervasive and persuasive that the King Philip of the just-across-the-strait semi barbarian state of Macedonia invited Aristotle to be the teacher of his intelligent son Alexander. The rest is history. Thus Socrates became the State just in three generations which was fast. Thus in achieving his objectives Socrates was a good philosopher.

No. I'm an academician with an interest in his poetry, and Bond has confirmed in an email to me that he doesn't have a poetry collection. (I'm Neil Graves, a professor of English, and can be reached at .) Bond has at least eight published poems, all done before 1965 or so, and he doesn't regard this as an adequate number for a collection; some of these titles, five of them actually, have been rather frequently anthologized and reprinted. The 8 titles are "The Bishop of Atlanta: Ray Charles," "Cambridge, Mass.," "Habana" (I have an article on this poem forthcoming in THE EXPLICATOR late 2008), "I, Too, Hear America Singing," "Langston Hughes," "Look at that Gal" (titled "#3" in one of its publications), "Miles," and "Rotation." Four of his poems appear in the anthology BEYOND THE BLUES: NEW POEMS BY AMERICAN NEGROES (1962); four of them appear in the journal UMBRA (issue 1.1), 1963; two of them appear in NEW NEGRO POETS, USA (1964, RPT. 1970); one of them appears in THE BOOK OF NEGRO HUMOR (1966); one of them appears in 100 PLUS AMERICAN POEMS (1970); and three of them appear in THE NEW CRISIS 107/1 (Jan-Feb. 2000): 32. Essentially Bond didn't publish new poems beyond his student days, but he continues to list some of his verse publications (and mentions "poems and articles") on his professional web site at U VA, and in his bio releases he mentions his role as one of the founders of THE PEGASUS, a student literary magazine at Morehouse. (He was an English major.) Bond reports in an email to me that his memory is not precise about exactly how many poems he published. I've not seen copies of THE PEGASUS (Bond doesn't have them) and don't know whether any poems published in that journal (if indeed there are any) are different titles from the eight I have located. Prof. Esta Seaton, one of Bond's mentors ca. 1960 or earlier, says that some friends through he might follow the role of poet rather than that of civil rights advocate. Langston Hughes saw him as one of the bright young African American poets of the 1960s.

I'll try to simplify my answer. Epifanio de los Santos is the "First Filipino Academician". He has been called the foremost scholar, premier literarian and supreme authority of Arts and Letters of the Philippines. He made significant contributions in Philippine arts, music, history, journalism, literature, culture and politics. Likened to the great Segovia of Spain, he is one of the three best guitarist of the Philippines in his time which include his follower Guillermo Tolentino ( national artist). He is a humanist historian ( renaissance man) or the so called old school of great Filipino historians cultured, passionate, interpretative and humane. He also upgraded scholarship in the Philippines in the eyes of its colonizers and the world. He is also a great antiquarian who had preserved old books dating as far as the Incunabula period ( earliest books ever published by the printing press) and other collection of him include Philippine revolutionary materials, paintings of great Filipino artists, musical literatures, furniture, sculpture pieces, opera records etc. His home has been a tourist attraction for unrivaled artistic Philippines ("Treasure house of Philippine Arts and Culture). The Philippine government profited from his administration as Director of the Philippine Library and Museum up to his death. He died in his office and was given a stately funeral. Sorry, no You Tube back then but you can search for old newspapers. . He was touted by local and foreign scholars as " Great among the Great Filipino Scholars" What makes him so great is his unblemished service, sacrifices, self- discipline, humility, extraordinary talents and skills, profound scholarship and training, leadership, creativity, ingenuity, professionalism, versatility, patriotism, philanthropy, daring independence, excellence and we already had forgotten the many good things he had done and his gifts for our country. Without his major contributions and numerous investigations and publications we will never be acquainted greatly with our arts, music, history, literature, culture, politics, jurisprudence, Filipino heroes, national artists and writers .. our sole identity and foundation as a nation.

He is a Filipino who have done great services and honor for his country in more ways than one be it Spanish and American period because he knows a Filipino can rise up to any challenges thrown up to him! He died in his humble office serving but it seems like he is still serving the country even by his meaningful name. He is truly one of our notable Philippine heroes whom people have forgotten because times have changed and scholarly or disciplinary undertakings in the arts, culture, music, philosophy, literature, language and others is no longer valued highly for economic growth and national development. Should we let it be?

Apolinario D. Nazarea Dr. Nazarea made significant role to the theories on biophysics and recombinant biotechnology including his own conceptual framework on the structure of RNA/DNA investigation. Born on October 11, 1940. On the turning point of the country's technical course, his part in the expansion of biophysics and biotechnology is both essential and well timed. With his worldwide-cited systematic work and hypothetical expertise, he has laid the groundwork for the design of artificial vaccines on a sounder molecular beginning. Melecio S. Magno Dr. Melecio Magno has researched on the assimilation and fluorescence spectroscopy of crystals, particularly rare-earth crystals; effects of typhoons on the allotment of gravitation; and the idea of science. He also a co-author of a Textbook in physics at the University of the Philippines named University Physics. He was a receiver of UNDP-WMO Fellowship in environmental physics and ozone study in 1974 and UP Endowment Professorial Chair possessor in physics from 1973-1976. He also becomes Vice-President for Academic Affairs at the UP in 1975. Dr. Magno was also appointed Chairman of the National Science Development Board (NSDB) in 1976, and he became the first minister of Science in 1978 when the NSDB became a ministry. Dr. Magno was born on May 24, 1920. Casimiro del Rosario Dr. Casimiro del Rosario was honored with the Presidential Award in 1965 for his excellent works in physics, meteorology and astronomy. But he became more well-known because of his workings on soft x-rays. Aside from researching and experimentation, Dr. del Rosario led the Philippine Weather Bureau for 11 years and also the vice-chairman for the National Science Development Board.

The custom of sending Christmas cards started in Britain in 1840 when the first 'Penny Post' public postal deliveries began. (Helped by the new railway system, the public postal service was the 19th century's communication revolution, just as email is for us today.) As printing methods improved, Christmas cards were produced in large numbers from about 1860. They became even more popular in Britain when a card could be posted in an unsealed envelope for one half-penny - half the price of an ordinary letter. Traditionally, Christmas cards showed religious pictures - Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus, or other parts of the Christmas story. Today, pictures are often jokes, winter pictures, Father Christmas, or romantic scenes of life in past times.
