This intervention is commonly called the First Israel-Lebanon War in Pro-Israeli circles (in contrast to the War with Hezbollah in Lebanon in 2006, which is called the Second Israel-Lebanon War).

Yes the United Nations has intervened in the Israeli - Arab conflicts. The most recent time several years ago when the UN authorized placing French "observers" in southern Lebanon to make sure no missiles could be fired into Israel.

This action failed as missiles were launched into Israel from southern Lebanon. The result was an invasion of Lebanon by Israel. Also Israel launched air attacks on Beirut.

No. Lebanon is on Israel's northern border or Israel is on Lebanon's southern border.

There are areas of Israel that are further north of some areas of Lebanon. But this is

similar to how some areas of Mexico are north of some places in the US, and some

areas in Canada are south of some places in the US. Similarly, the border between

Lebanon and Israel is uneven, and does not follow a line of constant latitude.

nice question, it remided me of a joke.

in the begining of time god chose to create the most beautiful country in the world, he called it Lebanon, he said that it will be a holy place with the grove of his own sacred trees, it will be the home of great people who will be the first capitalists in the world, who will invent the alphabet and the purple dye and the the first ship. the country will be mountainous with amazing beaches and breathtaking sites...

but the angels asked him OH lord don't u think your being a little too generous to this Lebanon? he said No, just wait till you see the neighbors I'm going to give them :).

Lebanon's enemies include Syria, Israel, and Iran

This question is difficult to answer because the term "War in Lebanon" is nebulous.

In the case of the Lebanese Civil War, one of the major factions fighting in that war was the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) which had made Beirut, Lebanon its headquarters after being thrown out from Jordan. In an attempt to unite the various Lebanese factions to attack Israel instead of each other, the PLO attacked Israel. The plan backfired as the Israeli Army allied with Lebanese Christians to oppose the PLO. The major entry of Israel into the Lebanese Civil War brought the Syrians in to counterbalance them. At the end of the war, the PLO was evicted from Lebanon and Lebanon remained under partial Israeli and Syrian occupation which ended in 2000 and 2006 respectively.

In the case of Israel's War with Hezbollah, Hezbollah considers the liberation of southern Lebanon (which has occurred with the possible exception of the Shebaa Farms) and the "liberation" of Palestine to be its most important goals. Since it derives a large part of its motivation to the Palestinian cause, it is easy to see how the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict precipitated the War with Hezbollah by providing the background for both Israel and Hezbollah to exist and to be positioned against each other.

Syria and Israel theoretically share a border, but they are separated by the UNDOF forces which occupy a no-man's land between them.

However, Syria and Israel both border Jordan and Lebanon. In the case of Lebanon, there is no land border with any nation other than Syria or Israel.
