The 'W' you see is the designer's monogram not a mintmark. If the coin has a mintmark it's on the reverse.

Assuming the coin is circulated and has no mintmark, the 1919 Buffalo nickel is a common date coin. For an accurate assessment of value the coin needs to be seen and graded. Most coins show a lot of wear. In general retail values for low grade coins are $2.00-$5.00, better grade are $7.00-$14.00 and coins showing almost no wear run from $28.00-$42.00. Values are a market average and only for coins in collectible condition, coins that are bent, corroded, scratched or have been cleaned have far less value if any to a collector or dealer

For what purpose? To stop an enemy attack. Answer: Rate of fire 400-550 rounds per minute. That may not be the exact answer to your question. This gun was air cooled, so it could have a tendency to over-heat but it did not have to stop to attend to the water. It was belt fed so the gun had to be reloaded. The maximum burst would depend on the length of the ammo belt. Machine Gun, Cal. .30, M1919A4/M1919A6. The M-1919A2, the predecessor to the M-1919A4 and M-1919A6, evolved from the Browning model M-1917 water-cooled machine gun. The M-1919 series .30 cal. machine gun was replaced by the M-60 7.62mm machine gun in the mid-1950s, but continued to be used into the Vietnam War. The M-1919A4 had a heavier barrel with a ventilated barrel jacket, but developed a slower rate of fire (400-550 cpm) than the water-cooled gun. Well, I have a partial answer. My grandfather used to own and manage the Hotel Stowell. I have a pencil (Official Census Pencil of Los Angeles County) with an advertisement for the hotel, along with census info. from that time.
Hotel Stowell 300 rooms with bath - $2.00 single - $3.00 double
"There will be a room for you at the price advertised"
A Seiersen Hotel 416 So. Spring St. TR 3011
in Los Angeles
census info. ......
1900 - 170,298 1910 - 504,131 1920 - 936,455 1930 - 2,208,492
1940 - 2,777,??1 1942 - 3,000,000 for Los Angeles County
So I guess the earliest known room prices that I know of are from 1942.
Wow! $2-3 a night!! Hope this helps or interests anyone.
