Quantitative expression of a performance objective, such as standard hours of labor allowed for actual production or a standard purchase price of materials per unit. Sometimes the terms standard and budget are used interchangeably. For example, budgeted sales revenue could be used as a standard in evaluating the performance of the marketing department.
