1. price at which a security or commodity starts a trading day. Investors who want to buy or sell as soon as the market opens will put in an order at the opening price.
2. short time frame of market opportunity. For instance, if interest rates have been rising for months, and for a few days or weeks they fall, a corporation that has wanted to Float bonds at lower interest rates might seize the moment to issue the bonds. This short time frame would be called an opening in the market or a window of opportunity. See also Window.
