Martin |
English painters and sculptors. In 1930 (1) Kenneth Martin married Mary Balmford ((2) Mary Martin), with whom he formed an artistic partnership. Although they took different directions in the development of their artistic practices, they both worked consistently within the disciplines and conventions of Constructivism. With a small number of other British artists, such as Victor Pasmore and Anthony Hill, the Martins succeeded in developing a type of abstraction that was as radically different from the pre-war work of Ben Nicholson and the other artists associated with the manifesto Circle of 1937 as it was from contemporary lyrical abstraction, or Tachism, which flourished in France.
