Álvaro Magalhães
Álvaro Monteiro de Magalhães (pron. IPA: ['aɫvɐɾu mɐgɐ'ʎɐ̃ĩʃ], born in Lamego on 3 January 1961), better known as Álvaro, is a former football association player (left wing back) who played for Académica Coimbra OAF, SL Benfica and Estrela da Amadora. He won several Portuguese titles of National Champion and the Cup of Portugal while playing for Benfica.
He was capped 20 times for the Portuguese national football team, from 16 December 1981, in a 2-5 defeat at the hands of Bulgaria, to 16 November 1988, in a 0-0 draw against Sweden. Álvaro played in the Euro '84 finals and the World Cup 1986 finals. He left Benfica at the end of the 1989/90, and finished his playing career in 1993.
He has been, since then, a football manager, notably assistant manager to Giovanni Trapattoni when Benfica won the Superliga in 2004-05.
Mr. Magalhães was born with polydactylism and was nicknamed the seis dedos (six fingers).
